Events

On the first Tuesday of every month, we’ll be joined by speakers who will share their passion and knowledge on a weird and wonderful range of topics.
All Tuesday Talks are free, but spaces are limited so we recommend booking in advance.
Tuesday 4th February - "Morton Sundour Fabrics through the lens of the Tullie textile collection"
Katie is a PhD student at the University of Glasgow, who spent her Spring 2024 placement volunteering at Tullie with the Fine and Decorative Arts Curator, Melanie Gardner. Her project was called ‘Trailblazing Textiles: Morton Sundour Fabrics and Edinburgh Weavers’ and focused on the history of these artistic fabrics which were designed and made in Carlisle. Her work to catalogue, re-house and explore this collection is showcased in the Carlisle’s Industrial Textiles display in the Border Galleries.
Tuesday 4th March - Claire Askew "The Accidental Criminal Writer"
Claire Askew became a crime fiction writer by accident. Having been an established poet for over ten years, she found herself ruminating on an idea for a novel that she wished someone else would write, so she could read it. When it became clear that wasn't going to happen, she was forced to take matters into her own hands. Fast-forward a few years, and she has somehow become the author of a six-part crime series. How did it happen? Claire still isn't sure herself...
Tuesday 1st April - tbc
Talks start at 1pm and take place in the Auditorium at Tullie.
If you would like more information about these talks, or would even like to be our speaker one month, please email bookings@tulliehouse.org
